ABOUT ARACHNIDS

Arachnids are a diverse group of arthropod invertebrates that consists of animals such as Spiders, Scorpions, Psuedoscorpions Ticks, Mites, Solifugids, Vinegaroons and Amblypigids.

Arachnids are classified based on their symmetrical sets of eight eyes and legs attached to a singular cephalothorax and an abdomen. They also posses 2 leg-like appendages that are used for grabbing known as pedipalps and 2 jaw-like structures known as chelicerae which are used for eating.

Most arachnids possess some form of venom which they use to incapacitate prey however, a large majority arachnid venom is completely harmless to people. Venom that I consider to be particularly of note is listed in the HCS, but it is worth noting that most animals here do have the ability to bite in some regard. Luckily, despite the stigma arachnids are (usually) very timid animals that would prefer to avoid people, and only bite/sting as an absolute last resort with them oftentimes being "dry" (lacking venom) as a warning due to the fact that they would prefer to save venom for hunting.

Note: Many spiders exhibit significant amounts of sexual dimorphism, and may appear differently than how they are shown based upon sex.

Below you will find a comprehensive list of all the Arachnids I have found in Whyalla, and its surrounding regions.
