Poriferans

ABOUT PORIFERANS
Poriferans are a primitive group of animals that are composed entirely of marine invertebrates known as Sea Sponges. Poriferans are multicellular organisms that lack cell walls, definitive organs, are heterotrophic (meaning they are neither male, nor female) and are typically radically asymmetrical.
Poriferans are the oldest known multicellular organisms on the planet, with fossil records dating as far back as 640 Million years ago, and as such are the organisms at which all other forms of life on the planet have evolved from (including us!)
Below you will find a comprehensive list of all the Poriferans I have found in the wild in and around the Whyalla region.
EDITORS NOTE: Poriferans are an extremely hard group of animals to get definitive IDs on without proper and extensive observation, something of which I am neither qualified, able, or knowledgeable enough on these animals to do especially considering that most species must be fully submerged for the animal to be seen properly. Species listed below will be identified to the absolute best of my ability, but I cannot guarantee the accuracy of any of any of the information listed in this section, many apologies for the inconvenience.
Inaccuracies will be fixed as new information is learned.
